What is Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy usually involves a pool with adjustable swim jets that provide resistance. Canine hydrotherapy is putting you dog in a pool, ocean or lake and letting them swim with or without a life jacket. A dog’s muscles benefit from the warming effects of the heated water. It is better to treat dogs in heated water since cold water causes constriction of the blood vessels near the skin and to the superficial muscles (those just under the skin) which restricts the flow of blood making the muscles less efficient. Aqua hydrotherapy helps the dog’s body to relax. Hydrotherapy is believed to help all systems in a dog’s body, both physically and emotionally. The benefits of for hydrotherapy for humans has been used for years. Because of the increased resistance to movement, a 5 minute swim is equivalent to about a 5 mile run. The buoyancy of the water supports and lessons stress on the joints, encourages freer movement and provides a safe environment for exercise. Hydrotherapy has specific therapeutic effects on body tissues. Safe exercise with stresses for muscle strengthening and maintenance, increased circulation of blood to the muscles, therefore increased tissue healing, relief of pain, swelling & stiffness, muscle strengthening, cardiovascular fitness. Great for enhancing general health and fitness.

Why Up Front Dog Pool?

The size of our pool is 17 x 10 feet for your K9 Therapy.  Heated to a comfortable temperature of 88-89 degrees- enjoyable year round. Easy to access deck around the pool. Designed for laps with the soothing effects of warm water during exercise.  This allows the pet’s muscles to relax and stretch. We also have the added features  of water jets that help stimulate circulation and increase relaxation.  Our indoor pool has a ramp to get up to the deck of the pool.  With space on either side, the owner and dog can be comfortably together in the pool. Disadvantages of dogs swimming in a pool. If you try and do laps you can’t walk as fast as they can swim every time they get to the steps they try and stop if you are in the pool with them you are fighting them the entire time to keep them going in a circle. When throwing a ball the dogs stops exercise and it is sporadic stopping for you take ball and throw. Disadvantage of a underwater treadmill. The dog is contained and exercise constant , it is not natural the dog is half trotting and half swimming they are not getting the full benefits of swimming. What sets our facility apart from other dog pools? Just simply put… There are not many around who are willing to put forth the expense of offering a  hydrotherapy pool for dogs. We recommend you consult with your veterinarian before booking a swim at Up Front Dog Center
